Thai Culture on Stamps

Thai Stamps have many unique pictures that depict the countries culture and traditions. To begin with, some stamps show folk games. Thai games have evolved over the years adopting to each time period. Thai games are meaningful in children's life with exercise, following rules,compromise, and sportsmanship to learn basic principles for when they grow up. Popular games are flying a kite, rolling a wheel, catching the last one in the line, snatching a baby from the mother snake, spider clutching the roof, pebbles tossing and picking, and and seek, toughing a finger on the hands, tug of war, chase racing, hiding a cloth behind one's back, and many more. Also, some stamps show folk tales. Folk tales are popular to entertain and teach children and have been an important part of life. Tales have been passed through many generations and describe desirable attributes to teach young people. The stories are commonly passed from parents to children, the most popular literature being Ta In Ta Na and many others are very common that every child hears about (almost like "Good Night Moon" in the United States). Lastly, celebration of the first day the child is born is depicted on stamps in Thailand. Families lay the infant in a basket for their first 3 night. If the child is a boy, a knife (symbolizes diligent in earning his living), and a book and pencil (symbolizing intelligence) will be placed in the basket. If the child is a girl a needle and thread will be placed in the basket to signify a good housewife. After a ritual of arranging the cradle.
