Currently, Swaziland appears to be in stage 2 of the demographic transition model. To begin with, the birth rate is 30 per 1000 people and the death rate is 14 people per 1000 people. The birth and death rate are far apart making the rate of natural increase 16. The birth rate is high because they need children to work the farm and death rate is declining as a result of technology and fewer children die. The rate of natural increase is high like it is in a stage 2 country. Additionally, the population growth is 1.14%. The population growth has increased dramatically like a stage 2 country would have. The population pyramid shows Swaziland with an obvious pyramid shape like in stage 2 with many children at the base and few elderly at the top. Lastly, the life expectancy is 50.54 years old which is low and the fertility rate is 3.3 children per woman. The life expectancy is between the ages of 45 and 55 like that of a country in stage 2, yet the fertility rate is unusually low like that of a stage 4 country. Overall, most of the statistics of Swaziland is that of a stage 2 country in the demographic transition mode. Statistics of a stage 2 country is a high birth rate, a rapidly declining death rate, increased rate of natural increase, growth of population growth, life expectancy of 45-50, and a distinct pyramid shaped population pyramid and most facts of Swaziland fall into these categories.
